Frequently Asked Questions

What if my fish dies in transit?

We guarantee live arrival. If anything goes wrong during the final leg of delivery, you're fully covered by our DOA policy.

Will I be charged if my fish doesn’t make it into Australia?

No. You’ll only be invoiced for fish that successfully arrive in Australia. If your seller doesn’t ship, or if an issue occurs during export, you won’t be charged.

What if I make multiple orders?

If you have several orders in one shipment, we’ll combine them and refund any excess in shipping so you're only paying your fair share.

Is it legal to import Betta fish into Australia?

Yes — all our shipments are fully DAFF-compliant. We hold the appropriate import permits, handle inspections, and follow Australian biosecurity laws.

Do I need an import permit?

Nope. We hold the permit and handle all legal documentation and inspections on your behalf. You just register and pay — we handle the rest.

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum order is required. You can ship just one fish or ten — we treat all shipments with the same care.

What are the box sizes and how are they priced?

We offer three box sizes: Small (1–6 fish), Medium (7–16 fish), and Large (17–36 fish). Each has a fixed delivery cost, so it’s cost-effective to fill your box to its limit.

Can I use multiple breeders?

Yes. Just ensure all your sellers send your fish to the correct export address and label them clearly with your import name or code (we’ll provide this).

I don’t have a breeder. Can you help?

Absolutely. We can connect you with trusted sellers we regularly work with in Indonesia and Thailand.

How do I know my fish will be safe?

All fish are inspected before departure, packed securely, shipped in oxygenated bags, and quarantined in Australia for 7 days before final delivery.

Who takes care of my fish while waiting for export?

Our export partner houses your fish in dedicated tanks before shipment. They’re monitored, water-changed, and safely held until the flight to Australia.

How long does it take from booking to delivery?

Shipments typically leave within 5 days after booking closes. Your fish will be delivered to your door within two weeks of departure.

How do I track my order?

You’ll receive updates at each stage — export received, quarantine complete, and tracking details once your parcel is dispatched.

Can I cancel my import booking?

Yes, as long as your fish haven’t been received at our export hub. Once your fish are in transit, cancellations are no longer possible.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit/debit card, Apple Pay, and Zip/Afterpay. You’ll only be charged for the fish that have arrived safely in Australia. All others will be refunded.

Can I split my order across two imports?

Yes. Just let us know in a message or email to us at info@bettabud.com — we’ll split and assign your fish accordingly.

What types of Betta fish do you support?

We accept all legal types of Betta splendens, including Halfmoon, Koi, Alien, Fancy, Crowntail, and macrostoma. Hulk betta are not permitted.

How much is shipping?

Shipping varies depending on your location and the number of fish. Costs are calculated fairly based on the boxes used, and is adjusted automatically — overcharges are refunded. Please also refer to the section about box sizing, so that you may make the most cost-effective choice.

What happens if my fish is delayed in quarantine?

Delays are rare, but if there is any delays, we’ll notify you immediately and keep your fish safe until clearance.

What if I can’t receive the delivery?

You can track your fish through your account with us. If needed, you can contact us at info@bettabud.com to discuss.

Do you sell fish directly?

No — we’re an import service. You choose your fish from breeders. That said, we occasionally run pre-selected batches or auctions.

Can I talk to someone before I book?

Of course. Just message us through our contact page or Instagram and we’ll walk you through the entire process.
