I have recently acquired some new stock, a gorgeous green Overhalfmoon with black lace and a green halfmoon, and a beautiful blue butterfly halfmoon. I chose some copper girls and one stunning green halfmoon female. So after a long break between spawns I will be getting them underway this coming weekend. I have chosen to start them off with the Green OHM with black lace and the green halfmoon girl. She has a strong metallic irridescence to her and almost looks mustard gas. Apart from my lousy camera skills, I am extremely excited to see what these spawns can produce.
3.09.05 I had almost forgot how exciting these fish were to breed. I am naming this guy the stallion as he looks just like one as he prances around the tank. His lady friend is just as proud and they look an excellent couple. Excuse the hopeless photos but you have to give me points for trying. These fish are definitely the most spellbound to watch and to see the colours intensify during spawning is something else.
6.9.05 - Well their off and running. Both parents performed really well albeit naively and have been removed from the tank and rewarded. From what i can see there is about 40 maybe really good sized 2 day old bubs. Out of all my spawns I have noticed sometimes I get big babies and other times smaller ones when they hatch. When I have got bigger hatching babies they generally grow better faster too. The microworms and bbs are rearing to go. 10.10.05 - Just a quick update as I have notice I havent put anything in here. Babies are doing well, there appears to be about a dozen but could be more. They should be showing some colour in the next few weeks. 10.11.05 - Sorry to be so late posting. My babies have been slow to colour. I have jarred one and he seems to be the same colour as his mum. Ive been pretty slack lately and getting into other things, (dont worry my fish are still all ok). All the fish are showing the trend of being copper and black or copper and green. IE.. the parents colours. I have not fed them blackworms this time and there has been no growth spurts. Those worms are excellent for fry but i have found they very often poison the adults. So I have sworn off them for the moment. 19.11.05 - Thought i better post a photo of one of the spawn. He is a funny colour, definately a green but of the copper variety. As you might know I hate taking photos or as I confess am pretty useless and this little tike is very active so im pretty proud of the still shot. The others are colouring up now.
