This spawn has finished now, i still have 4
males left, one that i intend to breed from, the others a mixture of colours and
superdeltas. Please email me if your interested at bargain price. (31.03.07)
Ive got to say I am pretty excited at the new fish
I have just purchased from Bangleang Bettas and Bettaquality. Here is a sneak
preview of the males.
15.10.06 Just an update to say the fish have
arrived and are being conditioned as I type. They are just as nice as their pics
and I hope to start breeding the blue cloud by this coming weekend. The females
have tails almost impressive as the males.. photos to come.
I just took photos of the pair in the spawning tank and Im
guessing you will all be thinking "why doesnt she take up photography"
but honestly Its just a hobby. HAHA. The female is in a bottle so they can get
acquainted, the water is yellow I think because of the amount of sunshine coming
in.. all perfectly clear. Have a look at her tail, she is better than some males
I have seen. Although not showing until I get a better photo of her (calling
Brad) she is nice dark blue with butterfly geno. The females all had a bit of a
scrag fight to sort out the pecking order so all in separate tanks now to save
their fins.
18.10.06 Both parents performed excellent and dad is now
looking after a batch of healthy babies. The parents were only in the tank
together for 24 hours and the father will be taken out probably tomorrow so the
little ones can explore their tank.
25.10.06 Just an update.. i can see about 100 healthy bubs
give or take a few. I have learnt if I look down upon the tank even at this age
I can see given the right light their colours and so far its equal blue and
green. I get real excited when I see green as that is my favourite colour in
Bettas. Always striving for the perfect green.
At the moment I am trialling the fry on frozen rotifers as
a backup food instead of microworms. The main diet is baby brine shrimp but to
alternate with rotifers to see how they go. Its tiny enough to feed to tiny fry
but time will tell whether they thrive.
Here is a little happy snap of the fry in the nursery.
12.11.06 - Just to report they are coming up to the 4 week
mark and i am about to introduce blackworm to them. I am super pleased with this
bunch. There is still about 100 and their colours look to be excellent, although
they havent got their true colours yet, the iridescence is coming through.
Frozen rotifers went down well, I didnt end up giving microworms this time but
baby brine shrimp is a crowd pleaser although i think they need more to chomp on
right now. They need a growth spurt.
Another thing to add, i am once a week putting about 500
mill of aged water in to the tank and raising the level, in a week or so i will
start hoovering the muck up on the bottom because they will be too big to
mistakenly suck up. Everything is going brilliantly .
21.11.06 - I have just put 4 of the largest in a growout
tank for a bit to give the other guys the chance to grow also. Bettas give out a
hormone to stunt their siblings whilst their together. Remove the largest and
they all have a growth spurt.
26.11.06 - The four largest exploded in size in the last
week and have now been jarred as sparring has started. Another 8 have been put
in the grow out tank and the others are growing well too. All are eating live
adult brine shrimp, chopped live blackworm and live baby brine shrimp is still a
favourite snack. I also feed them dry food as in pellets and flakes so they wont
be fussy when its time to go.
Ive taken some more happy snaps of the jarred juveniles to
try and show the colours. one is definately a royal blue mask (probably male)
and the other i would take a guess as metallic pale green but time will tell. I
have a sneaking feeling the first blue boy will be a butterfly.
03.12.06 - My photos are improving and so are my Bettas.
Here is the same royal blue mask male a week older, a green mask boy maturing
also and another royal blue mask. I have noticed some butterfly patterns
appearing in some and am hoping to see marbling in others shortly. There are a
few very pale greenish metallic bettas such as above who turned out to be a
female. The largest bettas will be available in the next week or 2. They are
growing fast and are all healthy and full of colour.
10.12.06 - Here is an update of the blue male above and
some more young males. The interesting thing that has come about is I several
silvers which I presume were supposed to be Steel blue but the blue pigment is
missing. Some look charcoal and others just silver. The marbling is starting to
come out in some and others butterfly pattern. The shall be interesting to
watch.
17.12.06 - The first male is the first male in the above
pics too.. he has reached halfmoon status and im hoping a fair few of them will
if not superdelta status. They are all ready to go out so if you see any that
you like contact me as i need the space.
22.12.06
31.12.06
Pretty much all my boys that are jarred separately are
approaching or have reached halfmoon. Im very happy with this spawn and the
females are all growing excellent also. I have no silver males left but a few
dark steel males . I have a few marbles coming out and watching their colours
change almost daily is fun.

I am trying to take pics as i go.. these guys are all
secretly going halfmoon overnight. The absolute best spawn ever
I think for future pics i will use a female next to them to
get them flaring.
13.01.07
They just keep getting better quicker. I have never seen so
many halfmoons out of one spawn. I have about 9 males left and fair dinkum they
are all just as good as each other. Some are only just starting to sprout fins
as they have been in the grow out tank with the girls but now clearly enjoying
their solitude. Females are impressive too.
25.01.07
Ive got I think about 8 males which consist of green mask
butterflies, royal blue masks solid and butterflies, a turquoise butterfly
superdelta. What girls i do have left I am keeping for the moment. If your
interested just send me an email. The blues this time seem to be the most
impressive tails but all have solid colour.
On a sour note I lost my copper/gold male a few days ago
just as I was setting up the spawning tank. He just seemed to be listless for 2
days and then died. A big downer for me as i was looking forward to his spawn.
I now have the choice to breed some of the marble dads
offspring or put him back in the tank with the copper/gold female who has some
redwash and hope that his marble counteracts that or back with the first female
of this offspring as they had outstanding children. The other choice is to put
him in with his daughter which sounds sick but that is Betta breeding.

Happy Australia Day!
Ok to round off this page as it is way to long now, these
are the final photos of the males i have left, some are still to reach Halfmoon
and others already have. And also i have taken a pic of DAD as he is now with
his prospective new mate.
